Just a quick stopover in Amsterdam

We'll just start this post by saying the day didn't start out as good as it ended. After a quick UBER to the airport, we waited in line for the business class check in to Amsterdam, final destination Lima, Peru. Our tickets to Amsterdam were no problem, but the tickets for the Amsterdam to Lima flight were all screwed up. This is a 13 hour flight, complete with lay down seats and where you are sharing a 40 sq ft space with your neighbor. Bill had booked these tickets over nine months ago but somewhere in the last week, KLM , in their infinite wisdom decided to separate the two of us. Bill was booked in 1k and Andrea in 2h, catercorner from each other. And the fight begins. No one, and we mean no one was able to change it back to our original seats. We pleaded with the gate agents, we called all the help lines, we texted KLM customer care, we on-line chatted with a gate agent and every avenue was a big fat "sorry, but we can't fix it now but maybe when you get on the plane the passenger your sitting by will switch seats so you two can sit together". Meltdown time. Princess was not happy nor would she stand for that answer. Time was running out and we had to board the Croatia to Amsterdam flight so we did and were greeted with two glasses of champagne. That calmed the nerves a little. We got the flight attendants involved in our troubles and they promised that they would send a note to their colleagues letting them know of our issue. So, the minute we landed in Amsterdam we found the KLM transfer desk and after listening to our issue, 3 of the agents put their heads  together and magically re booked Bill's ticket to his original seat. Problem solved... at least we hope so when we board this flight in one hour.

So after checking into our hotel, we got the express train to Amsterdam Central and did a little walking around. Amsterdam is a big beautiful city with old unique architecture. It is also known as the Venice of the north with all the canals. Marijuana is legal here and smoked everywhere. It is a bit overwhelming and mixed with all the cigarette smokers, you practically need a gas mask. We went to dinner at a Nepalese restaurant called Sherpa. Very delicious and one of the best dinners we have had.

Until Lima!
